The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest
force in getting well. ~ Hippocrates.
What I do is Clear, Refocus, and Empower that force -with you.
The remedies I practice seek to facilitate the work that your body, mind and spirit do naturally in the healing process.
Well-being starts with Thought, Intent and Attention. |
Attention: The Body Healing NC office has moved.
We are still in the Eastowne Excecutve Office Complex in Chapel Hill, but we are now in 213 just 3 doors down from 207 Providence Rd.
You will find tabs above and links to the left that will bring you to information about me, the modalities I practice, and the many benefits you can expect. You can also acess medical history intake forms, which you can edit in Word or print, fill out by hand, and bring in the day of your first appointment, the hours the office is open for appointments and the rates per session I charge, as well as the directions and maps to the office and a lot of other valuable information regarding your health that I believe you will find useful and interesting. Check out some of the infomation to the right listed under "Food for Thought". Thank you for visiting the site and I look forward to meeting and helping you on your journey toward wonderful health.

Body work is more than just a luxury!
The BodyWork Therapies I practice are hands on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including; fascia, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and organs. The effects of massage are physiologic and psychological. The effects work in concert on the systems of the body including the cardiovascular, lymphatic, skeletal, soft tissues and the neuroanatomy.
Neuromuscular, Lymphatic Drainage, CrainoSacral, Myofascial Release Therapy have a simple and a complex intervention. It has the systemic effects of immune system enhancement and physiological normalization, and it lessens excessive muscle tonus in the body. By reducing the somatosensory noise of muscle tension and compression in the body, as well as quieting the chattering of the mind, bodywork therapies often makes it possible for people to notice the effects of their “body use choices” and to make changes that are not of a “recipe-nature” but that arise spontaneously from an accurate awareness of how their body feels.
Precise clinical effects are achieved through the normalization of tension in specific problematic muscles and resolution of myofascial TrPs. Shortened connective tissue is lengthened, and often numerous sub clinical nervous system compromises are alleviated.
You might find it interesting to read "Massage Therapy Fable" before you continue, and then come back and continue reading the rest of this page.
There are
numerous other affects that these therapies may have on, for example:
- Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.
- Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow, the body's natural defense system.
- Improve the condition of the body's largest organ the skin.
- Increase joint flexibility.
- Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
- Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
- Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling.
- Ease medication dependence.
- Reduce spasms and cramping.
- Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
- Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
- Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
- Lessen depression and anxiety.
- Release endorphins amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.
- Relieve migraine pain.
- Increase concentration.
My approach to body/mind therapy is holistic, working to heal the body not only on the physical plane, but on the mental and emotional levels as well. As the body progresses through its healing cycle, it experiences the release of stress, toxins, and old patterning which inhibit the body from achieving complete health.
This helps to balance and stimulate the flow of energy through the body. For many people therapies I practices interrupts what is known as the “pain-spasm” cycle that occurs with an injury. Once this cycle is broken both pain and muscle spasm begin to subside and patients experience substantial relief from many of their symptoms such as: an improvement in joint mobility and muscle flexibility; an improvement in the circulation of lymphatic and venous fluids; better assimilation of nutrients and the elimination of toxins; a reduction of physical, emotional and mental stress; and a better overall flow of energy through the entire body.
The following is a list of some of the most common applications for Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy where positive results have been reported:
- Relieving chronic pain
- Releasing lymphatic congestion
- Reducing many types of swelling and lymphedemas
- Supporting post-mastectomy health
- Helping to decrease swelling and promote healing after surgery and post-injury
- Strengthening the immune system
- Improving venous conditions of the legs
- Decreasing breast congestion and pain
- Treating fibrocystic breasts
- Alleviating adipose and cellulite tissue
- Relieving chronic and sub-acute inflammation (sinusitis, otitis, bronchitis, acne and allergies)
- Deep relaxation to aid insomnia, tension, and stress
- Reducing the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia
- Detoxifying body tissues
- Regeneration of tissue- burns, scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles (especially on the face)
- Promoting healthy skin
- Slowing the aging process
